Nigerian international footballer Akinkunmi Amoo has completed a transfer from F.C. Copenhagen to Omonia Nicosia in Cyprus, inking a three-year contract with his new club, as reported by Soccernet.ng.
Amoo, a rising star in Nigerian football, had previously faced allegations of sexual misconduct during his time in Denmark. However, his move to Cyprus represents a fresh beginning in his career.
He has now joined the ranks of the Nicosia-based club, where he will reunite with fellow countryman Francis Uzoho, the current number one goalkeeper for the Super Eagles. Uzoho has been playing for Nicosia since 2020, having made the move from APOEL, and will now have Amoo as a teammate in Cyprus.
AC Omonia officially confirmed Amoo’s signing on their website, stating, “We have reached an agreement with FC Copenhagen to acquire the services of the 21-year-old Nigerian winger, Akinkunmi Amoo. The contractual agreement spans three years. Amoo commenced his professional journey at Hammarby IF and, a year and a half later, transferred to FC Copenhagen. We warmly welcome Akinkunmi Amoo to the OMONIA family and wish him great success.”
It’s important to acknowledge that Amoo encountered difficulties during his tenure at Copenhagen, including accusations of rape and sexual assault.
However, this move to Omonia Nicosia presents an opportunity for him to start anew and open a new chapter in his football career.
Amoo’s career has exhibited great promise, dating back to his time as a member of the Golden Eaglets squad at the 2019 FIFA Under-17 World Cup. Many will be closely monitoring his journey as he embarks on this fresh adventure with Omonia Nicosia in Cyprus.
