Portugal’s manager, Roberto Martinez, has emphasized the team’s ability to secure victories even in the absence of their star player, Cristiano Ronaldo.
Martinez conveyed this sentiment following Portugal’s impressive 9-0 triumph over Luxembourg during the UEFA Euro 2024 qualifier at Estadio Algarve on Monday, where Ronaldo was not part of the lineup.
Inacio, Ramos, and Jota each scored twice, while Ricardo Horta, Bruno Fernandes, and Joao Felix contributed with individual goals to ensure Portugal’s resounding victory.
Speaking in the post-match press conference, Martinez acknowledged Ronaldo’s significance to the team but underscored the squad’s capacity to thrive without him.
“Gonçalo Ramos demonstrated his abilities today, as did Diogo Jota. We require players who possess the capability to secure victories. This group is exceptional. We should not be drawing comparisons. While Cristiano is vital, our team is fully prepared to achieve success in his absence.”
