In the past year, the performance of Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has been nothing short of spectacular, and he is well on his way to clinching the prestigious CAF Player of the Year award.
Victor Osimhen, the talented Super Eagles striker, has expressed his determination to claim the 2023 CAF Player of the Year title.
Osimhen has undeniably been among the continent’s finest players over the last year. At just 24 years old, he netted an impressive 31 goals in 39 appearances for Napoli during the previous season.
His exceptional skills led him to break the Serie A goals record held by legends George Weah and Samuel Eto’o. Additionally, he played a pivotal role in Napoli’s 33-year-awaited Scudetto victory and their historic quarterfinal finish in the UEFA Champions League.
With his remarkable achievements over the past year, Osimhen stands as a leading contender for the CAF Player of the Year award. While he faces stiff competition from talents like Yassine Bounou and Achraf Hakimi, Osimhen appears to be in a league of his own.
As the awards ceremony approaches, scheduled for December 11, Osimhen eagerly anticipates the possibility of being crowned the continent’s best player.
“It would mean the world to me,” Osimhen expressed to Pulse. “I recall in 2015, when I won the CAF Youth Player of the Year award, watching the winner, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, walk up to receive the CAF Player of the Year award. Since then, it has been a dream of mine to strive for that level of prestige.”
“I believe I now have a significant opportunity to turn this dream into reality. I’m eagerly looking forward to it, and hopefully, I can bring the award home.”
The last time a Nigerian player secured the CAF Player of the Year Award was in 1999, but Osimhen aims to put an end to that long wait and bring the honor back to Nigeria.
