A former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has asked the National Assembly to demand an item-by-item breakdown of the N500 billion Presidential request for palliatives.
In a Twitter post on Thursday, the former lawmaker urged the parliament to ask President Bola Tinubu who is going to be in charge of the money and which agency of government will handle the funds.
Sani also asked the national assembly to inquire from the executive how the fund is going to be disbursed, saying that the questions are for transparency and to avoid the past fiasco in the Ministry of Humanitarian and Social Development.
He wrote: “Before the approval of the N500Billion Presidential request for the palliative, the National Assembly need to demand the item by item Breakdown of the figures; who is going to be in charge of the money; which agency of Government will handle the funds and how it’s going to be disbursed. This is for transparency and to avoid the past humanitarian ministry fiasco.”
Recall that President Tinubu on Wednesday wrote to the National Assembly seeking an amendment to the 2022 supplementary appropriation Act.
Naija News reports that this is to allow the Federal Government to source N500 billion for palliative to cushion the effect of subsidy removal.
This was disclosed in a letter read on the floor of the House during Wednesday’s plenary by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas.
The President said the money will be sourced from the 2022 supplementary Appropriation Act of N819. 5 billion.
The Speaker said the House will consider Tinubu’s request at plenary on Thursday and asked members willing to make contributions to be prepared to ‘do so’.
